Overview

The QuickStart Guide provides deep-dive instructions to configure, build and run a demo application on an Android device using Iris. The instructions helps you how to download, install and run a sample Engagement demo application using Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) key. The guide also provides instructions about how to install and configure the sample Engagement application on a separate instance of Volt MX Engagement server. The installed application subscribes to the Engagement server instance and receives push notifications.

The QuickStart guide assumes the following:

  • You have already requested for an instance of Engagement server and have access to it.
  • You have already installed the Android SDK and Iris.

  • Creating the Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) key to send push notifications for Android devices.
  • Downloading and configuring the Engagement demo client application using Iris.
  • Installing the configured client application on an Android device.
  • Configuring the Engagement demo application on Engagement server using the console.
  • Configuring the SMS Provider and SMTP server details on Engagement server to send ad hoc notifications.
  • Using the Engagement client demo application to subscribe and receive ad hoc- email, SMS and push notifications.
  • Sending the ad hoc email, SMS and push notification to subscribers through Engagement server. This involves creating the segment and sending the ad hoc notifications to individual subscribers and groups of subscribers (segments).
